Abstract

The cultural history of India and the discovery of Mohen-jo-daro and Harappa, reveals that Indian history is ancient, it is almost 5000 years old. It is compared to civilizations of Egypt, Sumaria, Babylonia, etc. The Indian culture is characterized by its originality, creativity, and richness. The spiritual and the philosophical contribution of India to the world has been great. The country bore the onslaughts of so many races, each race having merged with the existing races created a synthesis giving birth to a composite Indian culture with socio-cultural norms which are followed till today. The remarkable feature of Indian culture is the capacity to absorb and surround the cultural elements of many foreign cultures without losing its own identity or individuality. India is not only a land of endless varieties from geographical point of view, but also inhabited by an even greater variety of races which India represents, each having their distinctive existence whether it is the diverse races or their own set of social customs and traditions. But the most enchanting feature is the unity in diversity causing Indian Culture to become a distinct and thriving culture and a world force to be reckoned with.
